Washing human hair wigs
Before washing your human hair wig, gently use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to remove any tangles. If the hair is excessively tangled, try using a spray conditioner like wig shine or water in a bottle to straighten the hair.
Never fully immerse a human hair wig in water. This will cause hair to swell, tangle and ruin your wig!
Always start by lightly misting the hair with warm water in a spray bottle, then submerge it in water afterwards. This will prevent hair from tangling, which can be very difficult to fix.
Use only a mild shampoo, formulated for chemically treated or processed hair. A wig shampoo is always best. Do not use over-the-counter products or salon products that are not designed for wigs.
Run the hair under hot water or place the wig in a small sink or basin. Take a small amount of shampoo (about two tablespoons) and gently work it into the hair. Do not twist the hair or rub it. Use shampoo sparingly. Leave to soak for a few minutes in water, then rinse thoroughly with running water until all the shampoo is eliminated.
Conditioning Your Human Hair Wig
Leave-in spray conditioner is best for wigs, but rinse-out can also be used. Put a small amount (one tablespoon) of conditioner in your hand. Gently work conditioner into wet hair and leave for 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with hot water. Soak the wig in lukewarm water if needed to make sure the conditioner has come out of the wig.
Take a towel and wipe off the excess water. While the hair is still slightly damp, take a wide-tooth comb and comb the hair, holding it at the roots to remove any tangles. Never use a bristle brush or brush the hair when it is wet, as it may tear or break it.
Hang the wig to dry or lay it flat on a towel to dry (recommended for curly or wavy wigs). You can also put the hair in rollers by pinning it on a mannequin's head.
Straight hair wigs become wavy when washed. If you want the hair straightened again, just use a hair dryer on a low setting and comb it straight. You can also use a straightener on a low setting to press the hair.
